THE BAUHAUS:
VISIONARIES SHAPING THE FUTURE

One of the most significant pioneers of Bauhaus art and architecture was Walter Gropius. Renowned not only as an architect of daring and modern buildings but also as an author of theoretical writings, Gropius was an innovative, creative, and style-defining visionary. In his Bauhaus Manifesto, published in 1919, he declared the primary goal of his school of thought: "The ultimate aim of all visual arts is the building!" According to Gropius, architecture, sculpture, and painting should return to craftsmanship to collaboratively shape the building of the future. In their simple and straightforward form, Bauhaus products represent nothing less than a design revolution. Form completely subordinates itself to functionality under the principle "form follows function." Many Bauhaus-style products, both in their original form and their modern adaptations, remain indispensable in countless households today. Notable examples include the cantilever chair, the Wagenfeld lamp, and Bauhaus wallpapers.

Bauhaus-Style Staircases by markiewicz

The Bauhaus continues to stand for bold, rational, and functional designs in art, architecture, and design. Despite being over 100 years old, its aesthetic remains contemporary and particularly appealing to viewers. However, the novel buildings, innovative staircases, and diverse everyday items created in the Bauhaus style since the 1920s initially posed a visual and aesthetic challenge to contemporaries. The Bauhaus style in staircase construction by markiewicz can be summarized in three words: modern, simple, and functional. Our stunning Bauhaus-inspired staircases are the result of combining art and craftsmanship, with the finest materials and surface treatments.

AN ERA, MANY STYLES

Beyond the functional design characteristic of the Bauhaus style, there were significant artisanal manufacturers who combined individual artistic expression with the clean forms of modernity. Thanks to the "Exposition internationale des Arts décoratifs et industriels modernes," held in Paris in 1925, a unique flourishing of artistic design emerged.

The term Art Déco was born. This new style was prominently reflected in the design of numerous luxury items. Additionally, many Art Déco-style staircases were created, which continue to captivate viewers to this day.
