Project workflow

1. Initial Contact

Since you've found your way to our website, you likely have a need for a new staircase or are at least considering having one built. We'd be delighted to learn about your wishes and ideas or to discuss them with you. All of our contact channels are, of course, available to you. However, experience has shown that an email with your initial—perhaps already somewhat detailed—ideas provides the best starting point for a potential collaboration. In this early phase, photos of the rooms and/or the house plans for your construction project would be ideal. Of course, we would be happy if you asked your architect, designer, or project manager of your choice to contact us.

2. Request for Quotation

After you’ve contacted us, you will receive a detailed email from us that serves as a kind of checklist. We will request the information we need for the project. Of particular importance are, for example, planning drawings, the house construction plan (all floor plans and sections), details of the staircase, and the construction schedule. To help you get the best possible information in advance, we provide a useful technical information about staircase construction on our website, as well as numerous photos of completed markiewicz projects. To help you get a preliminary orientation, we recommend that you ask yourself the following four questions:

3. Detailed offer

As soon as we have all the important details, we will create a detailed offer for you, which we will send to you digitally, including the PDF product catalog.

4. Design Planning

Once you have decided to accept our offer and have commissioned us to build your markiewicz staircase, we will begin with the design planning. All relevant dimensional coordinates and chains, as well as all technical and static questions, will be coordinated with the third parties involved in the project. The more well-founded the communication and project coordination is in this phase, the more smoothly the project implementation usually proceeds.

5. On-site structural work

In this phase, the preliminary work is carried out on site by the technical and main construction trades – of course taking into account the markiewicz design planning.

6. Sample Selection

This is where your input is needed. It's time to choose the types of wood and finishes for your markiewicz staircase. Please take your time and consult with your family or other homeowners. This is not just about selecting wood types, but also about choosing metals, surfaces, and colors. To help you make the right decision, we provide small samples. For very demanding projects, we even produce a sample model, a so-called mock-up. We will support you at all times and to the best of our ability, so that even years after the construction of your markiewicz staircase, you can be sure you made the right decision.

7. Detailed Measurement

Depending on the size of the house or rooms and the complexity of the project, it can take up to six months after the design planning is submitted before the detailed measurement and digital scan of your stairwell can be carried out. For the final staircase measurement, the plastering and screeding work must be completed on site, and the final floor construction heights must be known.

8. Detailed Planning

After the detailed measurement and digital scan are completed, the detailed planning can begin. This includes all information about your markiewicz staircase, such as the floor plan, section, views, railing design, floor slabs, and the wall and floor finishes. This planning phase normally takes between two and four weeks.

9. APPROVAL OF THE WORK PLANNING AND THE COLOR AND SURFACE SAMPLES

In this section, the completed detailed planning, as well as the color and surface samples, are submitted for review and production approval. Depending on the project, approval can be given by the client, architect, construction manager, or designer.

10. Production

After production approval, the shop and assembly planning is prepared and forwarded to our in-house manufactory. This includes every screw connection, every anchoring technique, and every necessary drilling down to the smallest detail. At the same time, we commission our suppliers and, if necessary, project partners and artists (for example, for the required carving work). Production of your new staircase begins.

11. Production Time

The production time of a markiewicz staircase depends significantly on the staircase construction, design, and the materials selected. Depending on the effort involved, this project phase can take between two and twelve months.

12. Installation Date

Once the production of your staircase is complete, we will put a smile on your face: we will inform you of our readiness to deliver and coordinate the installation date with you.

13. Delivery, Installation and Acceptance

Depending on the complexity and workload, the installation work can take up to four weeks. This applies from the start of the work by the markiewicz team to the acceptance on site by the client, architect, construction manager, or designer.

14. Photo Documentation

After acceptance – subject to your consent – the finished staircase will be photographed. The images are anonymized and included in the markiewicz project portfolio. It is quite conceivable that we will present your staircase at design and architecture competitions.

15. Total Project Duration

Since we work with the utmost precision in terms of planning and craftsmanship, the entire order processing takes at least 14 weeks. However, this is the absolute minimum time requirement. Some particularly demanding and complex staircase projects have taken up to two years to complete and hand over to our always delighted and often proud customers who call a markiewicz staircase their own.
